Woodbridge, Va. –– Storm drains in a growing Woodbridge neighborhood got their proper labeling earlier this month.
Volunteers with the Prince William Clean Community Council spent Sept. 19 labeling drains in the Belmont Bay neighborhood, just off U.S. 1 in North Woodbridge.
The labeling program is part of a multi-year project to label every storm drain in Prince William County.
“Storm drain labels serve to educate the public on the dangers to our waterways due to the polluting our storm drains from oil, chemicals, litter, and debris. Even benign things such as grass clippings and yard waste can have a negative impact on the marine life in our streams, including the Potomac and ultimately Chesapeake Bay,” said event organizer Kayne Karnbach.
This past summer volunteers spent their time labeling storm drains in the Lindendale neighborhood of Dale City.
