WOODBRIDGE – Republican D.J. Jordan is celebrating after his campaign raised the most money of all first-time Republican challenger candidates for the Virginia House of Delegates, according to a campaign press release.
The campaign raised $100,166 during the first quarter, which also ranks as the fifth highest for any candidate overall – Republican or Democrat – in the state.
“We launched this campaign in January to fight for our freedoms and equal opportunity for families, and I’m glad that this message has resonated with so many people,” states D.J. Jordan in a press release. “This first quarter finance report is a testament that our campaign is strong and will be very competitive this year.”
Jordan is challenging the one-term incumbent in the House of Delegates Elizabeth Guzman (D-31, Prince William, Fauquier). Yesterday, she also touted her fundraising goal of $66,000 in the first quarter of the year. Guzman was prevented from raising cash for her campaign while the General Assembly was in session.
Throughout the state, there are 15 Republican challenger candidates against a Democratic incumbent for the Virginia House of Delegates this year.
Candidates are required to file reports detailing how much they raised in the first quarter of the year to the Virginia Department of Elections by April 15.
The amount raised by Jordan came from 258 contributions, with the majority coming from donations of $100 or less. The collection also represents the most raised for any candidate for the 31st District at this stage of the race, according to a campaign press release.
Jordan is the former Chairman of the Virginia State Board of Social Services and is focusing his campaign on economic and educational opportunity for the families in the 31st District.
On January 8, 2019, he announced the campaign for this election, and on March 30, Jordan has officially declared the GOP nominee, as he was the only Republican to file for the seat before the March 25 filing deadline.
Guzman won the seat in 2017 after she beat longtime Republican incumbent Scott Lingamfelter.
