Some people in need got a generous donation of food, prompting a local charity to celebrate.
A tractor-trailer pulled into the ACTS food pantry in Dumfries on July 29 loaded with 20 pallets of non-perishable food.
“This donation will alleviate the burden many families have to provide healthy meals for their children who are home from school for the summer. During the school year, they are able to have subsidized meals, but during the summer, parents bear the expense,” said ACTS Emergency Assistance program director Rebekah McGee. “We at ACTS are especially grateful for Wegmans’ generosity, because donations typically decrease during the summer months. Many donors associate hunger with the holidays, but the reality is that hunger knows no season.”
The groceries came from a pantry in Wegmans hometown headquarters in Rochester, N.Y.
ACTS, headquartered in Dumfries, works to alleviate hunger, homelessness and to end domestic violence throughout the region.
