WOODBRIDGE, Va. – Sentara Health said they’ve teamed up with Carient Heart & Vascular and Polaris Heart & Vascular Clinic to open a brand-new outpatient cardiovascular center—something Northern Virginia has never seen before.
The Northern Virginia Heart & Vascular Center, located on Groupe Drive just three miles from Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center, officially treated its first patient on July 24. It’s designed for people who need specific heart procedures but don’t require a hospital stay.
At $7.1 million, the facility brings high-tech outpatient cardiac care to Prince William County, aiming to make it more convenient, more affordable, and more comfortable. Services include cardiac catheterizations, pacemaker and ICD implants, and care for peripheral vascular disease.
Sentara leaders say this will free up hospital resources for patients with urgent or complex needs, while giving others a faster, more personal experience at a lower cost.

Northern Virginia Heart and Vascular Center opens in Woodbridge
Sentara joint venture is the first facility of its kind in Northern Virginia
Woodbridge, Va. (July 30, 2025) – Sentara Health is partnering with Carient Heart & Vascular and Polaris Heart & Vascular Clinic to create a new outpatient ambulatory cardiovascular center in Woodbridge. The first patient procedure was completed successfully on July 24, 2025.
The state-of-the-art Northern Virginia Heart & Vascular Center, one of only several such facilities in the country and the first of its kind in Northern Virginia, is approximately three miles from Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center (SNVMC). Designed and built with the latest advancements in outpatient cardiac care, it represents a major step forward in expanding access to this specialized service.
The creation of this $7.1 million facility was designed to improve access, patient experience, and affordability for the growing community in Prince William County. The new center will offer care to lower acuity patients, which in turn will enhance access for patients at SNVMC’s main campus in need of high-acuity and emergent cardiac catheterization.
Northern Virginia Heart & Vascular Center offers cardiac catheterizations, percutaneous coronary interventions, electrophysiology procedures to include pacemakers, ICD implants, loop recorder implants, as well as care for peripheral vascular disease. Procedures are completed as an outpatient procedure, making it incredibly efficient and patients return home the same day, usually within a few hours of arriving.
“What this means to patients is that they can now have cardiac procedures done in an outpatient setting without having to go through the often-rigorous process of a hospital visit, offering greater convenience, comfort, and privacy to people in this area,” said SNVMC President Jeff Joyner. “Sentara is proud to work with our partners to bring such innovation to Northern Virginia.”
Northern Virginia Heart & Vascular Center aims to transform outpatient cardiovascular procedures by being patient centered, delivering superior quality, exceptional efficiency, and ensuring every patient receives the best possible care.
“We utilize state-of-the-art equipment, comparable to what is found in hospitals, ensuring that cardiac care is delivered both efficiently and effectively. Our facility is specifically designed for patients best suited for elective, non-emergent cardiac procedures, ensuring high quality outcomes and a more personalized experience.” stated Jessica Mountjoy, the center’s Administrator.
“Another significant advantage for patients is the typically lower out-of-pocket costs compared to a hospital setting,” added Mountjoy.
The new facility is located at 13580 Groupe Drive, Suite 100, Woodbridge, Va. 22192. Learn more at www.nvhvc.com or call 703-637-7270.
