Aquia Creek reopens for swimming after sewage spill

Rappahannock Area Health District: “The Virginia Department of Health and Rappahannock Area Health District announced today that the portion of Aquia Creek in Stafford County that was under a swimming advisory from the crossing of Aquia Drive to Government Island due to a sewage spill has been reopened.”

“The section was closed August 25, due to a release of raw sewage in the area. The waterway reopened for recreational activities effective today August 30, 2023. The Rappahannock Area Health District has monitored water quality in the waterway since the raw sewage release occurred, and water sampling results confirm that the area is now safe for recreational water activities.”
