Jacqueline Marshall Meeks, age 90, died Saturday, April 24, 2021 at home in Haymarket VA. Born at Crisfield, MD, November 13, 1930 to the late William J. and Lillian (Tyler) Marshall, Jacquie was raised at Tylerton, Smith Island, MD and always took great pride in her identity as an “island girl.” Following her graduation from Crisfield High School (1948), Jacquie moved to Washington D.C. where she worked and fell in love with that great city. Jacquie and her late husband, Thomas L. Meeks were married at Foundry Methodist Church on June 7, 1952 following Tom’s graduation from the United States Naval Academy.
Jacquie drew great joy from serving others through church, community and charitable activities. Known for her commitment to the Republican Party, her real passion lay in a deep love for the American ideals of civic and political engagement, and on Election Day you would always find her working the local polls.
Jacquie was a “collector of people,” and delighted in celebrating special days and details in the lives of her many friends and family. In a storybook ending to a charmed and beautiful life, Jacquie stepped onto the heavenly dance floor to the sounds of Bing Crosby singing “Cheek to Cheek.” At the very moment of her last breath, music softly playing in the background carried a message of assurance and joy: “Heaven, I’m in heaven. And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak…”
She is survived by three sons, Lee (Maxine), Tom (Virginia) and Don (Krista); nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private-family service and burial will be held at Greenwich Presbyterian Church, Nokesville, VA at 11:00am on Saturday, May 15, 2021.
For those unable to attend, the service may be viewed via livestream at https://greenwichpres.org/livestream/
