Micheal Allers, Jr. announced his candidacy for the 50th District House of Delegates seat for the 2021 election.
It’s a district that encompasses Manassas City and the Bristow section of Prince William County.
Currently, the seat is held by Lee Carter, the two-term, self-avowed Democratic Socialist who’s pushed hard to legalize marijuana in Virginia and to end the state’s “right to work” law, which would mean employees would be forced to join labor unions. Carter takes on not only his constituents on Twitter, frequently typing “F__ you” to those who disagree with his policies, but he also involved himself in a standoff with police during a May 30 riot just outside Manassas following the death of a Minneapolis resident George Floyd.
We talked to Allers, Jr., a school teacher and member of the Republican Party, who shared his views on labor unions and about why Virginia’s Right to Work law needs to be reformed. You can see our conversation in the video below.
Outgoing Manassas City Councilman Ian Lovejoy, who ran against Carter in 2019, tells Potomac Local News he is also considering a second run for the seat next year.
