A 16-year-old is behind bars today and his charged with the murder of another teenager in what police are calling a drug deal gone wrong.
Prince William police were called to the 1600 block of Florida Avenue on Wednesday, March 18 at 6:12 p.m. to investigate a shooting.
Police found the victim, a 16-year-old male, arranged to sell marijuana to another teen. During the encounter, a struggle ensued, and the victim was shot, Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok said.
The victim was taken to an area hospital where he later died.
Detectives with the county’s Homicide Unit identified the suspect and obtained a detention order for his arrest. In the early morning hours of Thursday, March 19, the suspect was located at his residence in Woodbridge where he was detained.
Following the investigation, the suspect, who has only been identified as a 16-year-old male juvenile, was arrested.
“Due to a 2017 law change, the identity of the victim is not being released,” said Perok.
