FREDERICKSBURG — Its race weekend in Fredericksburg as more than 7,000 runners are set to take the course for the Marine Corps Historic Half Marathon.
Event day ceremonies begin on Sunday at 6:30 at a.m. The start line for the race is located adjacent to Wegmans in Central Park.
Here’s a list of Sunday morning’s events and start times:
- 6:30 a.m. Opening Ceremonies
- 6:40 a.m. Devil Dog Double Start
- 6:40 a.m. Semper 5ive Start
- 6:57 a.m. Wheelchair, Hand Cycle, and Duo Start
- 7:00 a.m. Historic Half Start
- 7:40 a.m. Devil Dog Double must complete the Semper 5ive portion of the course
- 9:30 a.m. Award Ceremony
Semper 5ive and Devil Dog Double Start
Participants and supporters must park near the Semper 5ive/Devil Dog start location.Post-event shuttle from the finish area will return runners and spectators to their vehicles. Support crew can drop off runners near the Fall Hill Avenue location of the Semper 5ive start and then drive and park in Fredericksburg’s Central Park, located near the finish. Both events will begin at 6:40 a.m.

Viewing area 1: Just after Historic Half Mile 7, Devil Dog Double Mile 12
William Street at Hurkamp ParkAfter wishing runners well at the start line, spectators should walk toward Wal-Mart in Central Park where they will find buses waiting to take them downtown Fredericksburg.
After debarking the bus at Hurkamp Park, spectators should walk to the other side of the park where runners will be making a left-hand turn onto William Street.
Viewing area 2: Just before Historic Half Mile 8, Devil Dog Double Mile 13
William Street at Caroline StreetAfter viewing their runner pass this location, spectators should follow the path of the runners, continuing straight to the intersection with Caroline Street. Here, spectators can also check out the Main Street shops and boutiques while supporting the Historic Half participants.
Finish Line
Fredericksburg Expo & Conference Center
After cheering runners in downtown Fredericksburg, buses will be available for spectators to board, at Hurkamp Park which will return them to the finish line.
After returning to the finish area, spectators should walk back toward the Fredericksburg Expo & Conference Center to bring runners home at the combined Historic Half/Semper 5ive finish line on the Wegmans side of Carl D. Silver Parkway.
The course tours colonial sites and Downtown Fredericksburg before scaling Hospital Hill on the way to the stars-and-stripes adorned finish and the U.S. Marines.
Along the way, runners pass significant landmarks dating back to the nation’s beginnings and notable neighborhoods that were home to the nation’s forefathers, including Presidents George Washington and James Monroe.
Fredericksburg police will close these streets for the event at 6:30 a.m. Sunday:
