NOKESVILLE — Streams in Nokesville spilled their banks after this weekend’s heavy rain.
A flood warning in effect until 5:15 a.m. Monday after the Cedar Run overflowed near Aden in Prince William County.
Locations in neighboring Fauquier County, to include Catlett, Calverton, and Bristersburg were also affected. Flooding in these areas is common and create traffic issues, as many commuters use the two-lane backroads in these areas to get to and from work.
When flooding occurs, many of the streets are closed due to high water.
High water was the case when Prince William rescue crews on Sunday morning helped a driver to safety after they became stranded by rising waters on Valley View Drive near the Bristow Manor Golf Course. No injuries were reported, said Prince William fire and rescue Assistant Chief Matt Smolsky.
Flooding was also a possibility Sunday night and early Monday near Manassas Park. The National Weather Service said flood gauges on the Bull Run River showed signs of rising water.
A flood warning on that body of water was set to be in place until 4 a.m. Monday.
A total of 1.20 inches of rain fell at Regan National Airport on Sunday. Dulles saw 1.49 inches of rain, according to the weather service. Add that to the rain that fell on Friday and Saturday.
The rain has ended and the week looks sunnier and drier. Expect partly sunny skies with a high of 75 degrees on Monday, and sunny and 83 on Tuesday.
