MANASSAS — About 500 people packed the track — the runway at the Manassas Regional Airport — on Sunday for the annual Manassas Runway 10K/5k/1 Miler race.
Three races were held — a 10K and 5K for adults, and 1-mile fun run for children. The results of the race are posted online.
The Bull Run Rotary Club sponsors the annual race. Proceeds from the event benefit Compassion Airlift, a non-profit that provides free air transportation for medical patients, Manassas police, and the Prince William Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol.
“The annual Bull Run Rotary Club Manassas Runway 10k / 5k / 1 miler is important to the community and the Manassas Regional Airport. The run is a healthy, educational, family event where the community can learn about the multiple aircraft that are displayed, while also seeing operational aircraft taking off or landing on open runways,” said Manassas City Councilwoman Theresa Coates Ellis, who is also an Assistant Governor in the Rotary Club.
The airport closes down one runway for the run to accommodate the visitors, some who came from as far away as Charlottesville to participate in the run, she added.
