DALE CITY — A park in Dale City will be rededicated this weekend to a man who served the community longer than anyone else on the Prince William County Board of Supervisors.
The 21.5 acre John D. Jenkins Park will receive a bright new entry sign, along with updated signage inside the park. The pavilions are slated for a fresh coat of paint and the parking lot will get new stripes.
This neighborhood park has a fenced-in basketball court, two playgrounds, two picnic pavilions with tables and an asphalt trail.
The rededication of John D. Jenkins Park will be held from 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m., to celebrate and honor the longest-serving supervisor on the Prince William County Board of Supervisors.
Jenkins died in February after compilations from surgery. We’re told the rededication ceremony was planned prior to Jenkins’ death.
The park improvements come as Prince William County Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism will team-up with Leadership Prince William and Comcast on Saturday, May 4, 2019, from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m, for the 18th Annual Comcast Cares Day.
The large-scale community service project is expected to draw close to 300 volunteers who will gather at The Arc of Greater Prince William, located at 13505 Hillendale Drive, and John D. Jenkins Park, at 13499 Hillendale Drive in Dale City.
The volunteers will be tasked with general clean-up of the grounds, laying mulch, planting flower beds along with improvements to ADA accessibility in the park.
Parking will be available at the VDOT Commuter lot, located at 14090 Gemini Way, Dale City, VA 22193. Shuttle buses will be available to and from the event location.
