Celebrating the Life of Walter Stephen McNear Sr.
Walter Stephen McNear Sr. 74 of Woodbridge, Virginia, entered into eternal rest on Saturday April 20, 2019. He was born to Mrs. Augusta Pegram. He attended the Halifax City Public School system and was a member of the 1964 graduating Class of Mary McLeod Bethune High School.
Walter was employed by the Red Top Cab Company for over 40 years.
He served as a deacon of Third Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia, under the pastorate of Rev. J.E. Penn. He later joined the First Baptist Church of Fox Chase (now Tabernacle Baptist) in Alexandria Virginia and was called to preach in the early 1980’s under the pastorate of Pastor Jeffery Wheeler.
He later joined the Ark of Love Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia, under the leadership of Pastor J.B. Howard. After the passing of Pastor Howard, he became the new pastor where he served faithfully until the closing of the church. He relocated to Woodbridge, Virginia, and joined Trinity Baptist Church under the pastorate of Pastor Arrindell. From there he went to Laurel Grove Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia, to help Pastor Scott get established. Once Pastor Scott was established, he returned to Trinity now under the pastorate of Pastor Dunstan where he served faithfully until his death.
He was preceded in death by his Aunt Mary Powell, a beautiful person, who was like a mother to him and a second grandmother to his children. He also was preceded in death by his brother Levy Jones III.
Walter leaves to cherish his memories his wife Ruby of 52 years, his mother Mrs. Augusta Pegram, and his six children: Daughters-Tonia Martin, Sabrina McNear and Tamar (Melvin) McNear-Ross; Sons-Walter S (Trevina) McNear Jr., Alphonzo McNear and Joshua McNear; 14 grandchildren Alfred, Antonio, Dwayne, Raquel, Melanie, Stephen, Shamia, E.J., Trevon, Amyah, Rezee, Asia, Mical, Micah and one on the way; two great grandchildren Josiah and Ja’nice; one sister Mary Jones Brown, two brothers-Lamont Jones and Letaz (Avis) James Sr., three sisters-in-laws-Delores Peterson, June Cooper Jones and Avis Jones; one brother-in-law Ronnie (Darlene) Peterson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends too numerous to mention.
