WOODBRIDGE — Delegate Elizabeth Guzman says she’s on her way to winning back her seat in the Virginia House of Delegates.
Guzman issued a statement Monday saying’s raised $66,000 since ending the legislative session the last week of February. Guzman has drawn support from Virginia donors since her election in 2017, raising over $200,000 toward her re-election effort on November 5, she says.
“Virginians elected me in 2017 to deliver on promises over healthcare, public schools, road improvement, and protecting women’s rights. I am proud to say we have brought healthcare to over 400,000 Virginians, obtained pay increases for teachers and state employees, reduced caseloads for school counselors, and brought millions of dollars to improve our roads,” says Guzman.
Guzman represents the 31st House District in Prince William and Fauquier counties. The Democrat says she plans to hold a series of town halls across the district “to listen to all of my constituents.”
The Democrat says if she’s reelected, she plans to work in the coming legislative session in January working to raise Virginia’s $7.25 minimum wage. Her statement did not say how much.
A similar effort this year in the Virginia Senate, to raise the minimum wage to $10 an hour, failed.
Guzman faces Republican challenger D.J. Jordan who, earlier this month, secured his party’s nomination to run for the seat.
The seat was held by longtime Delegate Scott Lingamfelter, who lost to Guzman in 2017.
