WOODBRIDGE — (Press release) The Prince William County Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism has designated the cultural and recreational assets of Rippon Lodge Historic Site, Rippon Landing Park and the new Neabsco Creek Boardwalk that will open June 1 as a new regional parkland complex.
The various sites comprising this new park are near the Neabsco Creek tidal wetlands which feed like bays into the Potomac River. This opportunity allows us to leverage the full tourism potential of current historic property holdings, accelerate natural resource management, accelerate cultural land acquisition and preservation, and expand educational programming.
The Prince William County Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism recently welcomed the county’s Historic Preservation Division into the agency. By pooling the shared talents of our staff, we will accelerate a single mission of creating cultural and recreational experiences for a more vibrant community.
We need your help.
In accordance with Prince William County Parks, Recreation & Tourism Policy (Parkland and Park Building Naming Policy, BOCS Res. No. 13-515) the Parks & Recreation Commission directed staff to convene a Naming Committee (comprised of 3 citizens from the Woodbridge District, 2 members of the Parks & Recreation Commission, the Deputy Director of the Dept. of Parks, Recreation & Tourism and the Historian from the Historical Preservation Division). The Naming Committee met on March 27, 2019, to recommend name options for the new regional park.
The Parks & Recreation Commission is now seeking public input on the name recommendations for the new regional parkland complex, located at 15125 – 15520 Blackburn Road, Woodbridge, Va., 22191.
