Sharon Ann Closson

Sharon Ann Closson (Jackson) of Stuart, Florida, formerly of Greensburg, Indiana passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2018. She was born on February 9, 1943 in Greensburg to the late Vergia Nell (McGee) and Edwin A. Jackson. She was preceded in death by her sister, Dianna Sue Norris (Jackson). She is survived by husband Steven Closson of New Paris, Indiana; daughters Stacy Closson and Sheri Economou (Closson), son-in-laws Sabry Hanna and George Economou; and four grandchildren Stephen and Suriel Hanna and Olivia and Shannon Economou.

Sharon was a graduate of Burney High School. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University in 1965 where she was a member of Twin Pines Cooperative House. She married her college sweetheart Steven Closson in 1966 and they lived in Chicago, Illinois, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Dumfries, Virginia, and Stuart. They had a great and loving marriage that lasted 52 years.

Sharon was a life-long educator, including teaching home economics to high school students in Chicago, writing and teaching cooking with Litton microwaves in Minneapolis, and 21 years in Prince William County, Virginia, teaching Home Economics and Physical Science at Graham Park and Saunders Middle Schools. She was a devoted teacher and dedicated herself to ensuring her students were well cared for in all aspects of their lives.

Sharon and her family were longtime members of the United Methodist Church in Dumfries, where they sang in the choir. She continued to play piano throughout her life at home, church, and for friends.

Sharon enjoyed years of boating on the Potomac River and the Chesapeake Bay with dear friends and was an excellent first mate. She always told Steve, “You may be the Captain, but I’m the Admiral.”

After retirement, Sharon and Steve relocated to Stuart, where she made many new friends, golfed and played bridge.

Family will gather for a private viewing in Stuart on May 10th at the Treasure Coast Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory of Stuart. They will hold a celebration of life in Virginia in July to share memories with extended family and friends. Contributions as a memorial may be made to the American Cancer Society.
