Charles Vincent Breder

Charles (Chuck) Vincent Breder 77 of Gainesville, VA, passed away suddenly on 03/18/2017. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Louanna Irene Breder, his daughter Janelle S. Harris (Jimmy) of Bristow, VA, and their children James C. Harris and Ashley M. Harris, son C. Eric Breder (Lenora) of Greenville, RI, and their children Isabella N. Breder and Gabriel C. Breder. He is also survived by his sister M. Eileen Jones (Gary) of West Union, SC, and brother David H. Breder (Jane) of Maynardville, TN.

In 1962, Chuck graduated with a BS degree in Chemistry from Carson Newman University in Jefferson City, TN, and he earned both an MS degree (1964) and a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry (1968) from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. After graduation he was a Research Chemist for E.I. DuPont in Wilmington, DE (1967-71). Chuck was subsequently a Supervisory Chemist for the Food and Drug Administration (1971-84) in Washington, DC. He finished his career as a Staff Scientist for the Law Firm of Keller and Heckman, LLp in Washington, DC (1984-2014). Chuck occasionally made presentations at national meetings and lectured in courses offered by the law firm.

Chuck was a 50+ year member of the American Chemical Society, and held memberships in the American Society for Testing and Materials and the Association of Official Analytical Chemists. He authored and co-authored many scientific papers, a couple of book chapters, and was written up in the American Men of Science.

He was a member of Columbia Baptist Church in Falls Church, VA for 44 years (1971-2016), teaching Sunday School Classes, singing in the choir, acting in theatrical productions, and serving on numerous committees, all mostly in the earlier years. After moving to Heritage Hunt Golf and Country Club in Gainesville, VA in 2003, he was active in its Little Theatre, performing in eight productions. He was an active reader focusing on action fiction and exploring spiritual concepts. He especially enjoyed discussing the latter with like-minded friends. Chuck enjoyed photography, and while not an "avid" golfer, he did manage to play frequently on the home course and on some nearby courses. He loved family "beach week" with everyone each summer, and enjoyed attending as many of the activities of the grandkids as possible.

Visitation is Wednesday, March 22 at Pierce Funeral Home in Manassas from 6-8, and funeral services are to be held on Thursday, March 23 at 11:00 am at Manassas Baptist church where he was a member from 2016 until his death. Interment will occur at Stonewall Memory Gardens in Manassas, VA.
