None of us are far from homelessness. One layoff. One foreclosure. One weakness that leads to addiction.
If you are anything like me, you have several pairs of sneakers and you probably only wear one or two on a regular. The others sort of collect dust and maybe see the light only when you open the blinds. The funny thing is, we continue to buy more as if we don’t have enough.
This is not the case for many homeless individuals. These individuals usually have one good pair of shoes to walk in from day til’ night. At times they will use tape or glue to hold together their worn down shoes only to keep their shoe-soles attached. In many cases, they wear shoes that are too small or too large only to have some sense of comfort for their journey.
Please join the HOPE PROJECT, as we begin a mission to collect new and gently used shoes for those in need. Some individuals battle with various diseases and illnesses such as Neuropathy and Diabetes, while experiencing homelessness. These individuals especially, have a high need for comfortable walking shoes. Although dress shoes are wonderful and needed as well, sneakers are absolutes.
For this reason, sneakers are (metaphorically) worth their weight in gold to homeless individuals.
The HOPE PROJECT is partnering with various Prince William County local community leaders and business owners in order to bring some relief to those that are in need of comfortable shoes. The HOPE PROJECT has partnered with The Babylon Hookah Bar of Woodbridge (3081 Golansky Blvd) and the Steel Horses Motorcycle Club (SHMC) to host a Community Lead “Soles 2 Souls” shoe drive on Saturday July 25, 2015 from 12-3pm.
Shoes will be collected and distributed to local charity organizations and homeless individuals until they are all gone.
