Senior Fire Officer Completes Executive Program

Woodbridge, Va. — Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue congratulates Battalion Chief Ernest Little on successfully completing the Executive Fire Officer Program (EOP) provided by the U.S. Fire Administration’s (USFA) National Fire Academy (NFA), a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

“The Intensive EFOP is designed to provide senior fire officers with a broad perspective on various facets of fire administration,” according to U.S. Fire Administrator Ernest Mitchell, Jr. “This program provides fire service officers with the expertise they need to succeed in today’s challenging environment.”

The four year program encompasses the following courses:

  • Executive Development – an entry level course with emphasis on team development and consensus decision making to enhance organizational effectiveness.

  • Executive Analysis of Community Risk Reduction – developing partnerships with the community to implement programs, initiatives and services that prevent and/or mitigate the risk of human made or natural disasters.

  • Executive Analysis of Fire Service Operations in Emergency Management – administration of incident response and emergency operations center functions are some of the topics.

  • Executive Leadership – examines all aspects of executive-level leadership and ties together the educational experiences of the three previous years.

Each course requires a written Applied Research Project which demonstrates application of course theory concepts to real life situations within the student’s own organization. The projects are evaluated through a formal process; progression through the program is contingent on achieving each of these milestones.
