Woodbridge, VA January 4, 2012 — 9:16pm Occoquan-Woodbridge-Lorton Volunteer Firefighters responded to the report of an explosion at the 14400 block of Gemstone Drive, Woodbridge. OWL VFD crews arrived on scene within minutes and found no fire, however the residents had used a bug bomb in the apartment, too close to a stove. This caused a small explosion that blew out the windows. Fire and Rescue units from OWL VFD, Dale City VFD, and PWC Department of Fire and Rescue responded to the incident. There were no injuries. Damage estimate is still pending.
“Always read instructions carefully when working with flammable products” stresses OWL VFD Chief Jim McAllister. “Never use this type of product near a heat source, ignition sources or open flame. This means dryers, stoves, heaters and pilot lights. If you live in a multiple unit dwelling, tell your neighbors before use.”
