Woodbridge, Va. — No one likes standing in line, especially during the holidays. But for the six of every 1,000 children living with autism the waiting, music, lights, and people can prevent them from enjoying the traditional visit to Santa many children anticipate each year.
To help families and children affected by Autism, Potomac Mills mall and their partner WorldWide Photography, have announced a sensory-friendly experience with Santa.
On Sunday, December 11 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., the Santa experience housed in the mall’s “fashion district” will change.
“The lights will be turned down and staff will be instructed to avoid loud, distracting movements. In addition, families will not have to wait in line, but will sign in and be called when it is their turn. Children will be provided with complimentary coloring sheets while they wait”, according to a Potomac Mills spokeswoman.
Visits with Santa are free, photo packages are available for purchase and range in price depending on selections.
