Trooper Adam A. Bowen, 28, of Warsaw, was killed Friday when he collided with a Hyundai Elantra while responding to a call for help.

Two others who were in the Hyandai suffered injuries that did not appear be life threatening.

Bowen served as a state trooper since 2008, and spent five years with the Air National Guard prior to joining the force, said Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller.

He served in both wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Bowen is survived by his fiancé and parents.

The circumstances of the crash are still under investigation, said Geller.

King George County, Va. –– A Virginia State Trooper was killed tonight after his police cruiser collided with an oncoming car.

The trooper was traveling on Kings Highway (Va. 3) west in King George County at 6:45 p.m. responding for a call for assistance when he entered an intersection and collided with a Hyundai Elantra.

The force of the impact caused the trooper’s Ford Crown Victoria collided with a light pole, split in half, and the front end continued rolling into a parking lot and collided with three parked cars, said Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller.

The trooper died on the scene, and officials are still working to identify the victim’s next of kin.

The driver and passenger of the Hyundai suffered injuries that did not appear to be life threatening, said Geller. Both were taken to Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg.
