Lorton, Va. –– One man faces reckless driving and DWI charges following a police pursuit on U.S. 1.
A Fairfax County police officer saw a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and driving recklessly in the area of U.S. 1 and Pohick Road about 9 p.m. Sunday.
The car struck the rear of the officer’s police cruiser, which prompted the officer to pursue the driver, said Fairfax County police spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell.
The driver of the car accelerated and crossed into oncoming traffic several times, said Caldwell.
During the pursuit, the driver also struck a Fairfax Connector bus.
The car then entered a spin and the driver lost control, said Caldwell.
It crashed and landed on its side, near the main gate at Ft. Belvoir.
No one was injured during the two-mile pursuit, said Caldwell.
Fairfax County Parkway at U.S. 1 was closed following the crash for an investigation, and drivers were told to find alternate route.
Wilbur Reed, 30, is charged with felony hit and run, felony eluding, DWI and reckless driving.
He is scheduled to appear in court at 2 p.m. March 9.
