Mt. Vernon, Va. –– If Fairfax Supervisor Gerald Hyland was looking to get a wide range of applicants who want to be his next appointee to the county’s park authority he didn’t leave them much time to apply for the job.
Hyland, in a press statement released Tuesday, announced Fairfax County Park Authority Board Vice Chairman Gil. S. McCutcheon told Hyland he would not serve a sixth term on the board, asking not to be reappointed.
The press release asked those who want to replace McCutcheon on the board should submit a resume and a one-page letter that states their views on public service and to identify key issues facing residents living in Hyland’s magisterial district.
Those resumes had to have been received by 5 p.m. Wednesday; one day after the press release was issued.
To those who saw the release and submitted their application, good luck.
Hyland is expected to select someone to replace McCutcheon and then submit the candidate’s name to the board.
McCutcheon was first appointed to the county park authority in 1992, charged with representing the Mt. Vernon district.
He played a large role in the transfer of 2,000 acres of land that was the Lorton correctional facility and converting it into Laurel Hill Park. He also worked to prevent the 17-acre Lomond Hill property from being developed.
