Fairfax County is home to tens of thousands of acres of parkland, and officials are looking to improve them.

The Great Communities, Great Parks initiative was started in February 2007 as a way to guide park development between now and 2020.

Part of the plan will address how much new park land to acquire over the next 10 years, and how to protect the park land the county already owns.

Residents are invited to a meeting at the South County Government Center on U.S. 1, at 7 p.m. at Oct. 14.

There they’ll be able to provide their thoughts about how to make the park system better, and comment on the draft Great Communities, Great Parks plan before it is finalized.

Those who can’t make the meeting are encouraged to email their comments to the county’s parks department, [email protected], through Nov. 15.
