Fairfax County, Va. – Police say a Maryland man accidentally drowned last weekend in the Potomac River.
An investigation was launched when the body of 46-year-old Kenneth E. Huggins, of Suitland, Md. was found Sunday after a 911 call reported him missing the day before.
His death is not suspicious, said a Fairfax police spokesman.
Huggins went kayaking with his 19-year-old nephew off Belle Haven Marina Saturday, north of Mt. Vernon in Fairfax County, and disappeared just before noon .
The 911 call was placed by his nephew who had already safely made it back to shore by the time rescue crews arrived, police said.
Crews searched for Huggins’s until 8:30 p.m. The next day, the search and rescue mission turned into a recovery operation.
His body was found about 3 p.m. near Dyke Marsh, just south of Belle Haven Marina, police said.
