FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. – Election season is coming early in portions of Fairfax and Prince William counties as Democratic Rep. Gerrald E. “Gerry” Connolly and his Republican opponent Keith Fimian both issued email statements to their campaign supporters.
Connolly says his campaign will “be sprinting towards the finish line” this summer while many other politicians who are running for reelection this fall are taking some time off.
“The pundits and the press are watching the 11th district closely, because they know the outcome could determine which party controls the House. Our race will determine if our country sinks back to the disastrous policies that caused the economic collapse, or continues down the path of progress we’ve made over the last two years,” stated Connolly in his release.
Fimian, who lost to Connolly two years ago, in his statement took issue with the national debt, which is expected to exceed last year’s $1.4 trillion total, according to Fimian’s release.
“Federal spending is simply out-of-control. When the politicians controlling the federal checkbook are borrowing 41 cents for every dollar they spend, we have reached an untenable position,” Fimian stated. “This fiscal madness threatens our economy, our national security, and every family in the nation, both in the short-term and generations off.”
Fimian blamed Connolly for adding to the national debt, while Connolly warned his supporters that that “right-winged interest groups” will spend whatever they must to get him out of office.
Before being elected to congress, Connolly served as the Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.
Fimian founded his own home inspection business in Northern Virginia. Prior to that, he worked as a certified public accountant.
The eleventh district seat in the House of Representatives, which both men are vying for this fall, represents a majority of Fairfax County and all nearly all of eastern Prince William County.
