Woodbridge District Supervisor Frank J. Principi  has announced how residents can participate in his upcoming telephone town hall meeting.

It will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday Jan. 25, and those wanting to participate should call Principi’s office at 703-792-4646 or send an email to [email protected], Prinicpi stated on his Twitter account.


Ft. Belvoir, Va. –– A soldier stationed at Ft. Belvoir was killed Wednesday in Afghanistan.

Sgt. Zainah C. Creamer, 28, from Texarkana, Arkansas, was killed when an IED exploded near her, during an attack by insurgents in the Kandahar Province, the Virginian-Pilot reports.


Woodbridge Supervisor Frank J. Principi this week said the role of the Prince William County Police Department has changed from being able to help prevent crime to now only to respond to it.

In a statement, the Democrat said budget cuts have forced officers at the agency to carry larger caseloads and to patrol a wider area without additional pay.


Lorton, Va. –– It will be a day of service Monday for volunteers looking to raise awareness of the dangers of house fires.

Voluntters will gather at 9 a.m., on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, in several locations in the area including the Lorton Volunteer Fire Department and Dumfries Town Hall. From there they will canvass surrounding neighborhoods and distribute free information on how to prevent house fires.


 

Fairfax County, Va. ––One of the first projects that could benefit from Gov. Robert F. McDonnell’s proposed statewide transportation plan is the Interstate 95/395 High Occupancy Toll lanes.


Woodbridge, Va. –– The expansion of the Horner Road commuter lot in Woodbridge may provide some relief for commuters that will no longer be able to park at Potomac Mills mall.  But it won’t come fast enough to help those who will be put out on February 14.


Fire crews found the fire was contained to one apartment and there was smoke damage to another. Crews worked to quickly douse the blaze, said Prin ce William Fire and Rescue Department Battalion Chief Joseph Robertson.

The cause of the fire was still being investigated, but it did cause $50,000 in damage to the complex. (more…)


Lorton, Va. –– A woman from Lorton was abducted Wednesday and driven to Woodbridge, where she narrowly escaped her captor, police said.

It happened at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday when the 20-year-old victim was walking along U.S. 1 south, near Woodside Lane in the Gunston area of Fairfax County.
