Now the Stafford County high school student has a new accomplishment: singing on national TV.

Vanuch

Stafford County Supervisor Crystal Vanuch, recognizing the crucial role of the Fredericksburg Metropolitan Planning Organization (FAMPO) in transportation planning, recently reached out seeking data on the teleworking trends among Federal Government employees.

This inquiry, driven by the concern that a significant portion of Virginia Railway Express (VRE) riders are federal employees, underscores the potential impact of a recall to in-person office work on peak-hour traffic congestion along Interstate 95.

A resident speaks with Prince William Board of County Supervisors At-large Chair Deshundra Jefferson and Coles District Supervisor Yesli Vega, who joined a town hall meeting about a proposed Route 28 bypass on March 21, 2024.

Residents living near a proposed Route 28 bypass near Manassas express a loss of trust in the county government's decision-making process. Initially, the county voted against the $300 million, four-lane, four-mile road extension of Godwin Drive, only to reverse its stance shortly after that.

Business groups like the Prince William Chamber of Commerce support the bypass, saying its key to unclogging traffic congestion on Route 28, one of the region's busiest roads.

OmniRide, the local bus agency serving Prince William County and jurisdictions to the south, has unveiled its proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year, signaling a significant increase in operating expenses. The agency appears to rely heavily on Prince William County to fund the proposed budget hikes.

The proposed operating expense for OmniRide is a staggering $70 million, reflecting an increase of $10.3 million from the previous fiscal year. Among the key areas driving this increase are a $9.6 million surge in bus service contracts, a $3.6 million allocation for new I-66 services (fully state-funded), and $1.7 million earmarked for a full year of I-95 service (also 100% state-funded).

Suppose the latest idea on the Interstate 95 E-ZPass Lanes comes to fruition. In that case, drivers can access lanes in both directions during rush hours, creating a busier highway transportation system while offering more choices to drivers.

In the plan, there will be two lanes heading in the rush hour direction and one the opposite way. The details for this more accessible travel plan, as are many other factors, including construction, are still in the works.

Will they be able to fit another lane into the current E-ZPass Lanes space without widening the existing highway? Itā€™s one of the things Transurban and VDOT are looking at.
